NEW YORK CITY — Andrew Yang, the buzzy presidential candidate turned mayoral contender, tested positive for coronavirus.
Yang announced the diagnosis Tuesday by tweet and a campaign email.
"After testing negative as recently as this weekend, I have taken a positive COVID rapid test," he tweeted. "I'm experiencing mild symptoms, but am otherwise feeling well & in good spirits. I'm quarantining & adhering to public health guidelines until I can get back out on the campaign trail."
Don't expect to see Yang disappear from New York City's crowded 30-plus candidate mayoral race. He promised in a campaign statement that he'll attend as many virtual events as possible.
Yang's entered into the race to succeed Mayor Bill de Blasio with name recognition and positive early polling. But he has faced scrutiny over his actual connections to New York City.
