BROCKTON, MA — A new COVID-19 testing site is set to open Wednesday at the Shaw's Center in Brockton, said Mayor Robert F. Sullivan in a news release. The Shaw's Center has undergone $635,000 in improvements funded by Brockton's federal CARES Act funding, said the news release. It will now serve as an indoor COVID-19 testing facility operated by Brockton Neighborhood Health Center (BNHC). "Testing is key as we fight the COVID-19 pandemic and this newly-opened indoor testing facility will help make it easier for our residents to be screened for the virus," Sullivan said in a statement. "I'm proud of all the collaboration with our public and private partners who mobilized quickly to make improvements to the Shaw's Center so we could get it open for testing." BNHC's COVID-19 testing is currently in trailers in the parking lot of the Brockton Rox Stadium, but will be moved to the Shaw's Center starting this week. "We're thrilled to be able to partner with the city in this incredibly important endeavor, and continue to bring these vital services to this region," said BNHC CEO Sue Joss in a statement. "Testing remains a key component in combating the spread of COVID-19, and the renovated Shaw's Center is the perfect location for it." Testing at the Shaw's Center will take place on Mondays and Thursdays from 12 p.m. to 7 p.m. and on Wednesdays from 9 a.m. to 4p.m. Appointments are required and can be made by calling 508-559-6699 or visiting BNHC's website.
