Description

ANDOVER, MA — Andover is seeking volunteers to help plan the town's 375th anniversary celebration, which is this year. The town was incorporated in 1646. The town is looking for residents to join the "Town 375th Anniversary Committee." Anyone interested can go to the town's volunteer talent bank and apply. You can read about the town's history here. At a recent Select Board meeting, Board Chair Annie Gilbert suggested "laying out a process for reviewing the Andover town seal," which features a depiction of a Native American. Gilbert noted that she's received multiple questions in recent years about the portrayal of the Native American on the seal and that Gov. Charlier Baker has recently established a commission to review the state seal for the same reason. Gilbert suggested reviewing the seal in conjunction with the anniversary celebration — the town seal was adopted at the 250th anniversary and updated at the 350th anniversary, she said.
