Summit Schools Go All-Remote Wednesday Due To 'Icy Conditions'

SUMMIT, NJ — The Summit schools will remain remote Wednesday due to the effects of this week's nor'easter. "Due to icy conditions caused by overnight freezing, Summit Public Schools will be implementing full remote instruction for today, February 3, 2021," said a brief note on the district website. The National Weather Service issued a special weather statement Wednesday for the region, saying, "With temperatures below freezing and with snow showers that have occurred across the region during the overnight, untreated surfaces are icy and slippery. Proceed with extra caution if going outdoors and driving through the morning commute." (Meanwhile, forecasters say the region could get hit with another snowfall Sunday.) Several area districts remained remote Wednesday as they clear the roads, including Westfield and Cranford. Those districts also include Maplewood, which has gone remote for the rest of the week and has only had a week of in-person instruction this school year.
