Maintenance Worker I/II
Jobs
Modesto CA
Description
The Maintenance Worker is responsible to perform semi-skilled labor in the maintenance and repair of parks and park facilities, streets, trees, sewer systems, parking lots, bus shelters, traffic control markings, fire hydrants, and/or other public works or neighborhood preservation unit functions. Distinguishing Characteristics: Maintenance Worker I - This is the entry level class in the Maintenance Worker series. Positions in this class typically have little or no directly related work experience. The Maintenance Worker I class is distinguished from the II level by the performance of less than the full range of duties assigned to the II level. Incumbents work under immediate supervision while learning job tasks, progressing to general supervision as procedures and processes of assigned areas of responsibility are learned. Maintenance Worker II - This is the journey level class in the Maintenance Worker series and is distinguished from the I level by the assignment of the full range of duties. Employees at this level receive only occasional instruction or assistance as new, unusual, or unique situations arise and are fully aware of the operating procedures and policies of the work unit. Most positions in this class are flexibly staffed and are normally filled by advancement from the I level. Some positions are permanently allocated at the Maintenance Worker I level. For those positions, promotion to the Maintenance Worker II level is dependent upon the availability of a vacant II position. This class is distinguished from various specialized maintenance crewleader classes in that the crewleader classes are advanced journey level classes where incumbents perform the more complex duties with greater independence and also exercise technical and functional supervision over lower level maintenance staff.
