MANHATTAN BEACH, CA — Local artist and photographer Orhan Taner headed out to the end of the Manhattan Beach Pier, as photographers and tourists and locals are apt to do, to shoot his gorgeous surroundings. But what he didn't expect became the shot -- the one full of artistry, individualism, and contrast. As he took the scenic image — the one so many photographers take — of the setting sun , the sky, the colorful hues and the pelicans that glided through, he decided to turn around — and wham-o! The shot just hit him! "As for the shot, a good photographer looks back all the time," Taner told Manhattan Beach Patch. "I turned around and saw this. Happens only before a January sun sets. It was a very cold day, so not too many people were on the pier. That helped, too." Below is the scenic shot he captured, just before he looked back and captured the silhouettes of people on the Manhattan Beach Pier, their shadows cast on the exterior walls of the Roundhouse Aquarium, which was closed at the time. This stunning shot was captured by Orhan Taner from the end of the Manhattan Beach Pier. If you have an awesome photo of nature, breathtaking scenery, kids caught being kids, a pet doing something funny or something unusual you happen to catch with your camera, we'd love to feature it on Patch. We're looking for high-resolution images that reflect the beauty and fun that is California, and that show off your unique talents.
