MARIETTA, GA — Cobb County's coronavirus vaccination site will open later than planned on Tuesday morning due to unexpectedly cold weather. Instead of opening at 9 a.m. as planned, the site at Jim R. Miller Park & Event Center will now open at 11 a.m., Cobb & Douglas Public Health said in a news release. People who had appointments between 9 and 11 a.m. should instead arrive any time between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. to get vaccinated. The public health department also announced on its website it is not allowing residents to schedule COVID-19 vaccine appointments unless they already have one. "We are doing this to ensure adequate vaccine supply for the currently scheduled appointments," the website reads. Those with already-scheduled appointments for first or second doses will not be affected. Vaccines appointments are still available through other providers, according to the website. Thursday's delay resulted from below freezing temperatures and windy conditions in the area, according to the release. A wind advisory is set to stay in effect until 4 p.m., according to the National Weather Service. As temperatures climb to around 43 degrees on Tuesday, wind gusts as high as 30 mph are still possible.
