Description
Fashion school education taught by industry experts in a garment factory environment. The Fashion Entrepreneur Essentials Training starts by teaching the fashion school fundamentals then moves that understanding beyond the classroom. This program specializes in developing informed fashion start-ups with a concentration on the USA made perspective. Module 1: Line Development & Sourcing Description: Do you have an idea for a clothing line but don’t know where to start? Designing a collection can be intimidating without the proper tools to channel your creativity. This intensive training will introduce students to the process of developing a fashion collection, focusing on inspiration, color, silhouette, and fabrics to form a cohesive group. Instruction includes: · Overview of the design and development process · Overview of choosing a target market, price points, seasons, trends, and silhouettes · Fabric and trim sourcing · Inspiration and forecasting resources and the creation of design boards · Using color to unify the collection · Editing the collection · Students create design boards for their own capsule collection · Students begin sketching their collection with instructor guidance Learning outcomes: Students will gain an understanding of how line development in the industry works and will be able to begin developing their own collections. Students who complete this course will leave with a design board, an outline for a capsule collection, and a packet of development knowledge for reference. Module 2: Tech Pack & Costing Description: What is a tech pack and why is it so important to the success of a fashion line? Tech packs are integral to the manufacturing process and this workshop will teach students the role they play in the development, costing and production of a garment. We will also learn to create cost sheets using the information in the tech pack. Instruction includes: · Overview of the importance of a tech pack in the fashion industry and its role in production · Introduction to each section of a basic tech pack · Introduction to seams and stitches · Introduction to callouts, measurements and grading · Overview of garment costing · Demonstration using the tech pack to accurately cost a garment as well as the line · Demonstration filling a basic tee tech pack with costing sheet Learning outcomes: Students will be able to create tech packs for their own garments and accurately cost them. Students who complete this course will leave with a basic Excel tech pack template and a packet of product development knowledge for reference at home. Materials: Pencils, eraser, notepad, measuring tape, basic tee Module 3: Factory Garment Production Description: This module will take students through the process of manufacturing a line in a factory. We will learn about sourcing, timelines, grading, and marking, and questions to ask a factory when putting your line into production. Instruction includes: · Overview of the development and manufacturing process · In-depth explanations of each step in the manufacturing process—including sourcing fabrics and trims, pattern development, choosing a size line, grading, marking, cutting and cut ratios, PP and TOP samples, send out elements, labeling, sewing, and packaging. · Tips on choosing a factory and questions to ask to make sure it will be a good fit for your production.
