Gwinnett Clean & Beautiful and Gwinnett County Department of Water Resources to Host First HHW Event of 2021 on February 20 at Gwinnett County Fairgrounds Lawrenceville, Ga. – February 2, 2021 – Whether fulfilling a New Year’s Resolution to declutter or getting a jump on Spring Clean 2021, Gwinnett Clean & Beautiful and Gwinnett County Department of Water Resources offer a terrific opportunity for Gwinnett County residents to rid their homes of household hazardous waste. From 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, February 20, the two organizations will play host to another Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day at Gwinnett County Fairgrounds. “We created this event in 2018 with the intention of helping our neighbors properly dispose of items that could prove harmful to the environment,” said Schelly Marlatt, Executive Director of Gwinnett Clean & Beautiful. “Since its launch, these collection days have helped many Gwinnett County residents rid their homes of items that might have otherwise wound up in a local landfill. Instead, many of the items collected will be recycled or used in the manufacture of entirely new products. It’s a prime example of our dedication to connecting people and resources for a sustainable Gwinnett. We work in tandem with other organizations, local businesses and the good people of Gwinnett County to make that happen. It’s a beautiful sight to see all those cars line up in the Gwinnett County Fairgrounds parking lot and know that we’re not only helping them declutter their basements, garages, offices and kitchen cabinets, but they are also helping us protect the environment.” The following items – which are not accepted curbside during weekly pickup – will be collected for proper disposal or recycling during the four-hour event: Aerosol/spray pesticidesAutomotive products (engine degreaser, brake fluid, transmission fluid, antifreeze, etc.)Cleaners, corrosives, spot removers, acids and basesAerosol/spray paintAuto batteriesBatteries (household and rechargeable)Chlorinated solventsCooking oil and greaseFire extinguishersFlammables (lighter fluid and waste fuels such as kerosene, gasoline, diesel fuel, etc.)Fluorescent bulbs and ballastsInsecticidesLatex and water-based paintsLawn care productsMercuryMercury salts and elemental mercury thermometersOil based paint and stainsOxidizersPesticidesPoisonsPropane cylindersSolvents and varnishesThermostats and other mercury containing itemsThinners and paint strippersWeed killerWood preservatives Gwinnett County residents may bring up to five containers of household hazardous waste during this FREE event.
