NORTH HEMPSTEAD, NY — Town of North Hempstead officials are advising residents to stay indoors and to keep their cars off public roadways to allow cleanup crews to do their jobs. "Please do not leave your house or drive unless it is absolutely necessary," said Town Supervisor Judi Bosworth in a public service announcement posted to the town's Facebook page on Sunday. In order to make snow removal operations run easier, town officials are asking that residents park all cars in driveways because it prevents cars from being "plowed in, and it provides plows with adequate room to operate," she said. Bosworth said residents should wait until streets have been plowed to begin shoveling sidewalks and driveways. Residents who must shovel to leave their homes for work should pile snow on their lawns and refrain from shoveling or plowing snow from driveways and sidewalks into the roadways because it can create icy patches, which are not only a nuisance, but a safety hazard. Trash collection and Project Independence transportation for Monday and Tuesday. Trash collections scheduled for Monday will be undertaken on Wednesday.
