TAMPA, FL — Thousands of health care workers will attend Super Bowl LV this Sunday for free, as the National Football League honors front-line responders during the coronavirus pandemic. Among them, a pair of nurses find themselves in a particularly thrilling situation. Angel Cardello and Apryl Rogers are lifelong friends who grew up in Kansas City. Now both nurses at Tampa General Hospital, Cardello and Rogers were overjoyed last year when their beloved Chiefs won the Super Bowl when it was held in their new home state down in Miami. The joy from last year could easily be topped this weekend, if their Chiefs can become the first team in 17 years to win back-to-back Super Bowl champions. This time, the Chiefs are in their current city and playing against the hometown Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The Buccaneers are the first NFL team to make it to a Super Bowl played at their own stadium. They are two of only 22,000 or so fans who will be allowed inside Raymond James Stadium for the historic game. The pair both received the same email from the NFL alerting them they had been among those chosen to be given the free tickets. "This is our home city in Tampa," an excited Cardello told WDAF. "The Super Bowl is in Tampa. The Tampa Bay Bucs made it to the Super Bowl with Tom Brady, and the Chiefs are going." "I checked my email and got the same email, and she was the first call I made," Rogers added. "Angel we're doing it! We're going into the Super Bowl!" Read more from WDAF
