Press release from the Lindenhurst Union Free School District: Jan. 31, 2021 Lindenhurst Middle School students Jake Albert, Crystal Wu and Frank Farrugia were recently recognized by the Wade-Burn Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7279, for their for their respective first-, second- and third-place winning contributions to the VFW Patriot's Pen Essay Contests. Each year more than 165,400 students in grades 6-8 enter the VFW's Patriot's Pen youth essay contest for a chance to win their share of more than $1.4 million in state and national awards. The student essays reflected the theme, "What Patriotism Means to Me." In his prize-winning essay, Jake stated, "I believe that everyone can and should be patriotic.
