Description
TOWN OF BABYLON, NY — The Town of Babylon is warning residents of a phone scam involving a scammer pretending to be from the town.
According to officials, residents have been reporting receiving calls from a number that looks like a legitimate town number from people fraudulently claiming to be from the town.
In these calls, people are told that they are under investigation or facing a lawsuit and are asked to provide sensitive information such as their social security number.
The Town of Babylon says officials will never call you without notice to ask for such information and will not conduct such business over the phone.
If residents receive a call like this, they should not provide any information and hang up immediately. The longer the scammer has you on the phone, the more time the scammer has to provide false proof that they are who they claim.
