Bodie Receives Leadership Award From Superintendents' Group

Your Arlington Last Updated: 30 January 2021 Written by Judith Pfeffer During the Jan. 28 School Committee meeting, Chair Jane Morgan congratulated Superintendent Kathleen Bodie on having just received major recognition from an organization of her peers -- the Bobbie D'Alessandro Leadership Award. Bodie responded that it was "quite an honor" and that she was "quite humbled by it." According to information received Friday from Bedford-based Massachusetts Association of School Superintendents (MASS), the award was presented Wednesday, Jan. 27, during the organization's 15th annual Women's Educational Leadership Conference, held virtually this year. This was the 11th such annual award to "an outstanding woman leader who is a role model for thoughtful and caring leadership with a laser focus on improved student achievement," according to an email from MASS. The email also said that it "was presented to Dr. Kathleen Bodie, the long-serving and highly successful superintendent in the Arlington Public Schools. Kathy is a school leader who exemplifies both authentic and courageous leadership." Bodie announced in June 2019 her intent to retire at the end of June 2021. She will be succeeded by Elizabeth Homan, who was chosen by the School Committee in late November. Contacted later Friday, Jan. 29, Morgan added this comment: "We have benefited tremendously from Dr. Bodie's leadership in Arlington over the last 13 years as Superintendent. Her laser focus on student achievement has been an asset to our district, our community, our families, and our students. Morgan continued, "I am particularly pleased that Dr. Bodie received this award in a year that has been, I believe, one of the most challenging ever for educational leaders in the Commonwealth. The School Committee is most grateful for her service and is pleased that her work has been recognized by her peers."
