The Healing House LIVE are monthly wellness workshops for women, led by industry experts, thought leaders, and practitioners. February's Healing House LIVE will focus on toxic beauty standards in the Black community. . The Healing House is excited to bring you something new for 2021. In keeping with our mission to bring awareness, to women of color, we are sponsoring our first “sister circle”. The sister circle series are designed to provide a sacred space to address tough topics. Join beauty, fitness, and wellness industry experts for a candid conversation on toxic beauty standards and Black women. Featured topics include: Hair typing and the Black hair industryThe impact of colorism on self-esteem and self-imageBody Privilege (the economic, social, and political advantages given to women (or men) solely based on their physical appearance)How social media and pop culture has negatively impacted how Black women view ourselves and each other.PLEASE NOTE: This is not a panel discussion. This is sister circle. Our goal is not to talk at you-but to share our stories, give contexts, and then create space for you to do the same. Come ready to learn, listen, and SHARE. This conversation will provide an opportunity for you confront and address your personal beauty story while learning the historical context of current beauty standards. MEET OUR "SISTERS" Kenya Jackson-Saulters, MS || The Healing House Foundational Wellness Master workshop facilitator, Kenya Jackson-Saulters, MS, is a five-time published self-help author and reiki master. A known quarter life crisis expert, Kenya has also graced the main stage of TEDx Greenville as a featured presenter and is currently the head speaker coach and consultant for TEDxMorehouse College. Most recently, she has blended the health benefits of exercise, meditation and writing to form a custom personal development experience for women called The Outdoor Journal Tour. Kenya has been an advocate for personal discovery through writing for over 10 years and is currently a practicing certified spiritual practitioner. Her wellness practice, The Healing House provides clients with a multi-disciplinary healing approach that is both unique and effective. Kenya holds dual undergraduate degrees in Sociology and Psychology from Xavier University, and a master’s degree in Policy Analysis with a concentration in Nonprofit Management from Georgia State University. Ashley Maltbia Burgess, MBA || MANE By Maltbia Ashley Maltbia-Burgess is a fearless entrepreneur born and raised in Detroit, MI. As a graduate of Howard University, tenacity and strategy flow through her veins. Becoming an insurance franchise owner at the age of 26 was the springboard that honed her business owner acumen and led her to launch her Hair Care Business, Mane By Maltbia-a luxury hair and beauty company with a focus on naturally based ethically sourced ingredients. MBM takes a holistic approach to beauty, self-care, and prioritizing mental and physical wellness for Black Women. Ashley has made it her mission to spread a message of positive growth in all areas of life - Grow Your Hair, Grow Your Business, and Grow Your Confidence! Bria Sneed, MS || bebodygoals Bria Sneed is a body positivity and fitness advocate from Indianapolis, Indiana. Bria graduated from Ball State University with a M.S in Biology and Biotechnology in 2017. She was a collegiate athlete who studied diabetes and its correlation to obesity. Her master’s thesis research was completed at Eli Lilly and Company. A scientist at heart, Bria is very passionate about conducting research on how diseases impact the body. She’s published two scientific articles, and continues to care deeply about issues that affect women of color. Most recently, Bria has expanded her mission beyond the lab by creating a women’s activewear brand. Be Body Goals was created to empower women of all shapes and sizes to lead a healthy and active lifestyle. Bria wants all women to have the confidence to “Be (their own) Body Goals.” +++++++++ About the Healing House The Healing House is a client-centered and custom wellness experience designed to help clients develop a deeper understanding of themselves through a combination of healing modalities. Our process combines elements of astrology, numerology, journal coaching and reiki therapy. We also take learning styles and personal goals into consideration as we build a comprehensive mental wellness plan that is sure to speak to the core of our being. We specialize in working women looking to address stress, anxiety, depression or feeling stuck. Our goal is to provide you with tools that help forge a stronger and more authentic relationship with yourself, your surroundings and those closest to you. The Healing House believes in the innate worth, value, and competence of every human being and will work with clients to create an experience that is practical and easily integrated into your life and personality. THH is led by master workshop facilitator, four-time published author, and certified reiki master Kenya Jackson-Saulters, MS. Kenya is a thought leader in the wellness community and has been recognized for her work integrating outdoor activity into the mental heath process. She is the founder of the Outdoor Journal Tour and creator of the outdoor wellness phenomenon #wehiketoheal.
