Description
EAST GREENWICH, RI — The Rhode Island Department of Transportation (RIDOT) will close I-95 South Exit 9 to Route 4 South during overnight hours from Sunday, Jan. 31 through Thursday, Feb. 4, according to a news release.
The overnight closure is part of RIDOT's project to make safety improvements to Division Street Bridge by replacing the bridge deck and modifying abutments. The bridge, which carries Division St. over Route 4 in East Greenwich, holds approximately 14,000 vehicles per day and is considered structurally deficient.
The bridge closures will take place from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. Exit 9 will be closed and traffic will need to follow a detour using Exit 8 to Route 2/South County Trail and Division Street to access the Route 4 South on-ramp, said the news release. Route 4 North and all other portions of Route 4 will not be affected.
The $22.9 million project to repair the Division Street Bridge began in August 2019 and is expected to be completed in the fall of 2022.
