PHILADELPHIA — The coronavirus pandemic has affected another long-running event in Philadelphia.
Officials from the Blue Cross Broad Street Run announced Monday that the 2021 race will be rescheduled due to the pandemic.
"At this time, it is clear that we could not safely hold the Blue Cross Broad Street Run in May," officials said Monday.
With safety in mind, officials have delayed the 2021 Blue Cross Broad Street Run to the fall.
"Our team is in communication with the City of Philadelphia to ensure that when the race is held, it is done with public health and safety as our top priority," officials said. While the future trajectory of COVID-19 is still unknown, we are hopeful that we'll be able to welcome you all this fall for the 2021 Broad Street Run."
Details for the rescheduled race have not been announced, however there will be no lottery for registration.
Participants who was registered in 2020 will have the opportunity to register for 2021 at a discounted rate. When registration opens, those who were registered for the 2020 race will receive an e-mail from RunSignUp.com with a link to register with the 20 percent discount.
"We appreciate your dedication to the Blue Cross Broad Street Run, as well as your flexibility and understanding as we all continue to navigate the unprecedented challenges presented by the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic," organizers said.
