DOWNERS GROVE, IL — Another beloved Downers Grove business will be closing its doors for good in the midst of the pandemic. Spice & Tea Merchants, located at 5111 Main St., plans to offer closing deals and discounts through March 20. In an email to customers, Spice & Tea Merchants announced the closure and thanked the community for their support over the past more than eight years. Spice & Tea Merchants, formerly located at 5225 Main St., was brought under new ownership in 2013. "[T]hank you for letting me be a part of your celebrations, cooking adventures and mishaps, families and community, and for allowing me to know you. And while you may not see me in the shop helping you with flavor selection and tea knowledge, please know that you may just see me pop up again, perhaps in the not-too-distant future," Diane from Spice & Tea Merchants wrote. Diane wrote that she considered closing the store when the pandemic first hit, but was rallied by community members. Ultimately, the decision to close for good came from "from a place of choice rather than necessity," she wrote. This week, Spice & Tea Merchants will begin liquidating its inventory. Spices and teas are 30 percent off and other items are 20 percent off. Store fixtures and displays are also available for purchase.
