Info about Las Cruces, please

I'm a 70-yr.-old man, possibly interested in moving to Las Cruces, and I'd appreciate a chance to email with someone and ask some questions, and hear anything you'd care to tell me about living there. Currently I live in the California high desert, and while there's so much natural beauty here, some of the things I'd like to get away from are: too many days of 100-105 degrees, high property taxes & insurance, being 50 miles from the nearest Home Depot, McDonalds, etc. Any info, positive or negative, would be appreciated. Have also been curious about Silver City and Tularosa.
