DEARBORN, MI — Millions of future Ford and Lincoln vehicles will be powered by Android with Google apps and services built-in through a new partnership between Ford Motor Co. and Google that was announced Monday.
Ford also named Google Cloud its preferred in announcing the partnership — a six-year deal that will begin in 2023.
"As Ford continues the most profound transformation in our history with electrification, connectivity and self-driving, Google and Ford coming together establishes an innovation powerhouse truly able to deliver a superior experience for our customers and modernize our business," Ford President and CEO Jim Farley sai din a statement.
Google will assist Ford leverage Google Cloud's AI, ML and data analytics technologies to speed up the automaker's digital transformation, the companies said in a joint statement.
Beginning in 2023, Ford and Lincoln vehicles will include digital features involving the Android operating system and Google Apps, according to the companies.
Google Assistant will allow drivers to keep their eyes on the road by allowing them to adjust features with their voice. The Google Maps app will provide real-time traffic, automatic rerouting and lane guidance, according to Ford. Drivers also will have access to their favorite music, podcasts, audiobooks and more through Google Play.
"We are obsessed with creating must-have, distinctively Ford products and services," Farley said. "This integration will unleash our teams to innovate for Ford and Lincoln customers while seamlessly providing access to Google's world-class apps and services."
