Description
HOOVER, AL — The 2020-21 school year has posed a bevy of challenges for teachers, administrators and students alike, as the coronavirus pandemic has forced students to change the way they face their school days. This can have a profound effect on the mental health of students, which is why 28 teachers from Bumpus Middle School in Hoover have been certified as "Youth Mental Health Aiders."
The training helps to equip faculty and staff to better identify mental health challenges students may face, tips for approaching them and providing reassurance and information and referral to professional help, if needed.
These faculty members join more than 100 in the district with this certification and more than a million worldwide.
Monday, elementary and middle school students that chose in-person instruction returned to five days a week of face-to-face instruction on campus.
Spain Park and Hoover high schools are scheduled to begin on-campus learning in mid-February.
