What will my day-to-day look like? Plan and determine set up procedures and operating sequences; select tooling attachments, spindle speeds, tool feed rates, work piece securing methods, supports, etc., best suited for nature of operations, machine, and size of the work piece. Position, align and secure work piece on the bed of the machine, clamp, and support work securely, using care to avoid distortion that may affect finished dimensions or secure work piece between centers or on faceplates of turning machines. Work from complex and involved sectionalized and part drawings and specifications, anticipating future stock removal requirements for finish machining. Use a wide range of precision measuring instruments and devices to set up, operate machines and check work. Your success will be because you are/have... Graduate of technical school, full apprenticeship program, or equivalent experience. Ten or more years of experience as a fully qualified machinist. Ability to read complex blueprints and specifications in both inches and metric. Full understanding of geometric dimensioning and tolerance. Visual acuity (corrected) to read directions and prints and to inspect machined parts closely to ensure that they meet specifications. Manual dexterity sufficient to operate machinery for precision work. Physical ability to do work requiring frequent stooping and bending, and extended periods of standing. Physical strength to lift and carry 25 pounds frequently and 50 pounds occasionally.
