Description

Downtown Evanston & Temperance Brewery Host an Evening of Warmth, Beer and Stories to Benefit the Evanston Reparations Fund As part of Evanston Winter Games, Downtown Evanston is partnering with Temperance Beer Co. to host an evening of warmth, beer and stories by the fire fit. The event is inspired by Temperance Beer Co. new release "Where I'm From" a beer that celebrates and supports an Evanston first: The City of Evanston Reparations Fund. Downtown Evanston is sponsoring the fire pits and guests are encouraged to purchase "Where I'm From" beer for the group--100% of sales will go to the City of Evanston's Reparations Fund. The title, "Where I’m From" is an homage to the Digable Planets’ song of the same name. It is a hazy India Pale Ale with vanilla, tangerine, and orange peel. During the event, people are encouraged to share their stories about family, heritage and experiences in Evanston. Fire Pit Reservations There are three time slots available, each with 6 fire pits that accommodate up to 8 people. Each reservation is for one group (family/friends). The minimum number of people per group is 4. Fire wood is included but please bring your own folding chairs, blankets and layers! Food is allowed; no outside alcohol allowed. IDs required. About the Artist: Maia Faith Maia Faith says that she “felt honored that Temperance entrusted me with bringing the visual representation of reparations in Evanston to life.” With her suitable-for framing design, she explains the two characters are “separate yet connected,” and “as Evanston moves forward together, we are turning over a new and necessary leaf. When focusing specifically on the Black community, the tree signifies roots (history) and strength.” She goes on to explain the background “pale yellow/beige color makes one think of something old (the past)” while the “lush green of the leaves stands out, showing the possibility of life.” She concludes, “the leaves are not static, but rustling in the wind — the wind of change.” Evanston Winter Games Throughout February, explore a variety of winter activities, promotions and shop local challenges in Evanston!
