NEW YORK CITY — Middle school students in New York City itching to return to classroom soon could learn when their schools will reopen. "During February, we'll put the plan on the table for middle schools and move on as quickly as possible," Mayor Bill de Blasio said Friday. Middle and high school students who opted for in-person learning have waited months to return to classrooms after a systemwide coronavirus-related closure. Only 3-K, pre-K, kindergarten and special needs students have returned since then. De Blasio during his State of the City speech Thursday pledged that all students would return to classrooms in September — a major goal that likely would require mass coronavirus vaccinations and high levels of immunity. He said bringing students back this school year will also depend on vaccinations, in addition to testing efforts.
