GREAT NECK, NY — A 70-year-old man in cardiac arrest was rescued from a car crash on Grace Avenue in Great Neck Saturday afternoon, Great Neck Vigilant Engine and Hook and Ladder Company Chief Justin Sachmechi said.
The man's car crashed into a tree at the intersection of Grace Avenue and Oliver Court and he was found to be in cardiac arrest by first responders at about 12:15 p.m., according to Sachmechi. The rescue was a joint effort by the Great Neck Vigilant Emergency Medical Technicians and firefighters, the Manhasset-Lakeville Fire Department Ambulance Unit, and the Nassau County Police Ambulance Bureau to "secure the car and render aid" to the man, Sachmechi said.
"Through the quick work of all involved, the patient was transported to North Shore University Hospital with a pulse and was breathing on his own," he added.
Sachmechi said that he and the department members are proud that the dedicated members were able to work together as a team with neighboring agencies "to save this man's life and transport him to the hospital in 22 minutes."
