MIDDLETOWN, CT — First Church in Middletown is continuing the fight against food insecurity in the city with its Sunday Lunch program, but organizers said resources are dwindling, and they will soon need help from the public. First Church in Middletown has answered the call from St Vincent DePaul to provide 80-100 Sunday lunches to residents of The Men's Shelter at the YMCA and the Eddy Shelter (the homeless shelter in Middletown), according to Pam Hartz Miller. As of this week, Hartz Miller said they have provided 80 meals to the Eddy Shelter and the residents of the YMCA in Middletown for 41 Sundays. The meals are made by Middletown restaurants and First Church pays for them. The cost for one of the Sunday meals is $500, according to Hartz Miller. Hartz Miller said the church's resources are running low, and they will soon need to rely on donations from the public. Residents can help by making a donation to First Church, 190 Court Street, Middletown, CT 06457 and write "Sunday Lunch Program" in the memo line. "Unfortunately, the need will still be here for many months to come," she said. "This is an important aid to not only the residents of these two places but also the restaurants."
