LOS ANGELES, CA — Los Angeles police shot and killed a man in the Vermont Square area Wednesday night after he allegedly assaulted his girlfriend. He was armed with a knife, according to police.
Authorities continued to investigate the shooting Thursday morning. The shooting occurred when officers responded to a call of a person being assaulted by a man with a knife at about 10:30 p.m. Wednesday in the area of 40th Place and Vermont Avenue, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
Officers from the Southwest Division arrived to find a suspect inside a vehicle assaulting the woman, according to the LAPD. That is when officers shot the suspect, and he died at the scene. Authorities did not release the identity of the man killed.
The woman sustained injuries to her face and was treated by paramedics. She was being interviewed by detectives, police said. No officers were hurt, and an investigation into the shooting was underway.
