Description
Be careful in buying extended warranties as they often cost a lot and cover almost nothing. A friend bought a snow blower at Lowe's and paid nearly $150 additional for an extended warranty. The first time she tried to use the snow blower, it wouldn't start. The clerk selling the warranty had said it covered "everything", so she called the store for help. They said, well, just find a local repair shop. The repair shop fixed the blower and informed my friend that the warranty covered nothing, so she paid another $150 for the fix. Several months of emails, phone calls and complaints and Lowe's won't even refund the cost of the warranty, much less pay for the repair. A complaint has been filed to the New Hampshire Consumer Protection agency as the Lowe's in question was in Conway, NH. A class action lawsuit, Fritz v. Federal Warranty Service Corporation et al., Case 1:20-cv-02210-MHC., is underway for these Lowe's warranties. No written information is given when these warranties are purchased at check out, just a verbal assertion by the cashier that they cover "everything" for several years. You only learn of specifics when you try to file a claim, which is usually denied. Too bad that Lowe's, which like Home Depot, offers a great service in the reasonably priced home goods it sells, feels the need to make extra cash with deceptive warranties.
