Portions Of Greenway Closed As County Expands Trail

CUMMING, GA — Construction for phase five of the Forsyth County Parks and Recreation Big Creek Greenway is underway, expanding the trail to Sawnee Mountan Preserve. The county is asking the public to refrain from accessing any portion of the following unopened sections of the Greenway until the construction is complete: Johnson Road to Chamblee Gap RoadChamblee Gap Road to Ga. 20Spot Road ConnectorDoc Bramblett RoadSpot Road to Sawnee Preserve The entirety of these portions of the Greenway are active construction areas, considered dangerous and are prohibited from use. An anticipated completion date for the Greenway expansion in these areas is set for this Spring, weather permitting. Post by Forsyth County Georgia Government.The following is a description of the proposed project from the county: The proposed Greenway trail will begin at the end of phase three of the Big Creek Greenway and will travel approximately seven miles to the Sawnee Mountain Preserve Visitor Center located on Spot Road. The proposed trail will serve as a multi-use trail and will consist of a twelve-foot wide paved path, including portions of boardwalk as well as pedestrian bridges, as necessary. The project also proposes three trailhead locations which will provide for parking and restroom facilities. In addition to the trail and trailhead construction, landscaping and other hardscape appurtenances will be provided. Construction of phase four is complete and is open to the public. This 12-foot wide multi-use trail begins at Bethelview Big Creek Trailhead and continues along Big Creek for 2.1 miles, running parallel to Kelly Mill Road for .75 miles and ending at Johnson Road.
