Tewksbury To Get 100 Vaccine Doses Per Week

TEWKSBURY, MA — Tewksbury will get just 100 vaccine doses per week as the state moves into the next phase of distribution Monday, Town Manager Richard Montuori told the Board of Selectmen Tuesday. The town applied for 4,000 doses — the most it could store — but was told that cities and towns will get just 100 per week, and must go through their first delivery before they get the next 100. "That does limit the amount we can give out," Montuori said, although that "might be good especially in the beginning as we develop our distribution process." People over 75 will be eligible for vaccinations beginning Monday, but some 100,000 appointments at mass vaccination sites across the state filled up rapidly Wednesday and Thursday. Montuori encouraged residents to go to the state's website, mass.gov/covidvaccinemap, to find nearby clinics and sign up for appointments. In addition to the mass vaccination sites like the DoubleTree Hilton in Danvers, there are some retail locations like the Burlington Wegmans and the Woburn Stop and Shop holding vaccine clinics. The town also has detailed information on signing up for the vaccine on its website, as well as regularly-updated town virus numbers. The Senior Center will help residents without access to computers sign up for vaccine appointments, Montuori said. The town will be involved in vaccine distribution, the town manager said, but it does not yet have a date for when it will open a clinic. Montuori said he was also talking to Lowell General Hospital as well as a local physician about helping with vaccine distribution.
