PLAINFIELD, IL — Plainfield has reported 1,059 new coronavirus cases in January, according to recent data available from the Will County Health Department. The village still continues to have the second-highest number of new coronavirus cases in Will County. During the week of Jan. 18, Plainfield reported 263 new cases, following Joliet with 284 cases. Throughout November and December, the village has had the second-most number of weekly cases. The weekly number of cases reported were: Week of Nov. 2 - 403Week of Nov. 9 - 620Week of Nov. 16 - 599Week of Nov. 23 - 531Week of Nov. 30 - 559Week of Dec. 7 - 498Week of Dec. 28 - 307Week of Jan. 4 - 407Week of Jan. 11 - 289Week of Jan. 18 - 263However, the village is showing a significant decrease in coronavirus positivity rates across all zip codes. According to data gathered from the Illinois Department of Public Health, as of Tuesday, the south side of the village (zip code 60586) has an average 7-day rolling COVID-19 positivity rate of 9.40 percent, whereas the north side (zip code 60585) is at 9.03 percent and the central part (zip code 60544) has an 8.46 percent positivity rate. The WCHD website reports the number of new cases during the week of Jan. 18 in each zip code as: 60586 - 13160585 - 6960544 - 62As of Tuesday, Will County has 60,980 COVID-19 cases, an increase of 159 from Monday, and 826 deaths from the virus, an increase of one during the same period.
