Youth Mental Health First Aid Training for Foster and Adoptive Parents and Workers (Child Care Provided) LOCATION TBD! WILL OCCUR IN SIOUX CENTER. Please note that the location of this event may change depending on the number of registered attendees to ensure proper space for social distancing. You will be notified via email if the location changes. MASKS ARE REQUIRED FOR ALL PARTICIPANTS INCLUDING CHILDREN! TRAINING PORTION OF EVENT Youth Mental Health First Aid is designed to teach parents, family members, caregivers, teachers, school staff, peers, neighbors, health and human services workers, and other caring citizens how to help an adolescent (age 12-18) who is experiencing a mental health or addictions challenge or is in crisis. Youth Mental Health First Aid is primarily designed for adults who regularly interact with young people. The course introduces common mental health challenges for youth, reviews typical adolescent development, and teaches a 5-step action plan for how to help young people in both crisis and non-crisis situations. Topics covered include anxiety, depression, substance use, disorders in which psychosis may occur, disruptive behavior disorders (including AD/HD), and eating disorders. This training will occur in two parts: A 2-hour self-paced module which you will gain access to via Adam LybargerA 6.5-hour in-person training occurring April 1, 2021Social Work CEUs will be available. Reach out to Taylor Prather at [email protected] to inquire about other CEUs. CHILD CARE PORTION OF EVENT Seasons will be offering FREE respite (child) care for any parent who attends this training. Activities will vary based on the child's age. Minimum age for child care eligibility is 4 years old. Child must be potty trained. Parents will be required to complete a brief child profile on each child attending the child care portion of this event. This paperwork will be emailed to relevant attendees and can be completed prior to the event OR can be completed in person the day of the event. Please plan to arrive to this event 10 minutes early if you opt to complete this paperwork day of.
