JERSEY CITY, NJ — Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez said Wednesday evening that her office is trying to find out more information about a "minor motor vehicle accident and car fire" in Jersey City Heights Wednesday morning that claimed the life of the unidentified driver.
Members of the Jersey City Police and Fire Departments responded to a report of a car fire at the intersection of Hutton Street and New York Avenue at approximately 7:45 a.m. on Wednesday. The area is several blocks west of the Palisade hills on the western border of Hoboken.
After the fire was extinguished, responding officers found an unresponsive male behind the steering wheel in a badly burned condition.
The victim was pronounced deceased at 7:59 a.m. at the scene, the Prosecutor's Office said.
The Hudson County Prosecutor's Office Homicide Unit, the Hudson County Regional Collision Investigation Unit, the Hudson County Regional Arson Task Force, and the Jersey City Police Department are actively investigating this incident.
