Longwood Gardens Luminaries Will Point To Hope, Remembrance

KENNETT SQUARE, PA — Longwood Gardens will honor those affected by the global pandemic in a display of hope and remembrance during Luminaria Nights. Friday and Saturday from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Longwood Gardens is featuring a display of hope and remembrance as thousands of glowing luminaria line its Paulownia Allée and East Conservatory Plaza, leading into the Conservatory. In extended evening hours on Jan. 29-30, guests will walk amongst the luminaria and reflect amid the quiet winter landscape with the opportunity to light an LED luminaria in observance of someone affected by the pandemic or as a symbol of hope for the future, said Patricia Evans of Longwood Gardens. The evening event sold out, Evans noted, so Longwood is also welcoming guests to join in the luminaria tribute online, by sharing messages of hope and remembrance on their social media channels Saturday evening. In 1906, industrialist Pierre du Pont purchased a small farm near Kennett Square to save a collection of historic trees from being sold for lumber. Today, Longwood Gardens is one of the world's great horticultural displays, encompassing 1,100 acres of dazzling gardens, woodlands, meadows, fountains, 10,010-pipe Aeolian organ, and a 4.5-acre conservatory.
