Babysitter's Boyfriend Charged With Murder After 2-Year-Old Died

SANDY SPRINGS, GA — Sandy Springs Police have arrested a second person in connection to the homicide investigation of a 2-year-old girl who died on Dec. 9, 2020. On Wednesday, police arrested Jeffrey Scott Meyers, 28, of Sandy Springs, on the charges of cruelty to children and murder, both in the second degree. Meyers was taken to the Fulton County Jail. Police say he is the boyfriend of Kirstie Flood, 29, who was babysitting the 2-year-old girl when she died. In December, Sandy Springs Police launched an investigation after a medical call of an unresponsive child inside an apartment on Monterey Parkway. The child was taken to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta where she was pronounced deceased by medical personnel. An autopsy performed on the child revealed she suffered severe injuries that resulted in her death during her care by the suspect. Flood was taken into custody and was charged with: Felony murder (2 counts)Malice murder (1 count)Aggravated battery (1 count)Cruelty to children, First degree (1 count)Due to the victim's age, the Sandy Springs Police Department will not release her identity.
