SOUTHAMPTON, NY โ With an April 1 deadline for submitting a plan for police reform approaching, Southampton town officials are presenting a second public listening session for its community law enforcement review committee.
The CLERC session will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 2, at 6 p.m. via Zoom.
Cuomo has said all police departments must work to improve community relations and said the initiative is critical moving forward. Each municipality must come up with a plan that works for that local area, he said, and those that don't complete the task by April 1 won't be eligible for funding in the new state budget.
"The public is encouraged to tell the panel stories โ good and bad โof their experiences with the Southampton Town Police Department," officials said.
To register to speak either click here or call 631-702-1777. Residents can address the panel by phone or submit written comments; those who wish to remain anonymous do not have to appear before the panel through video. A Zoom conference call link will be provided and a speaker order number will be given.
The deadline registration for those who want to speak during the call is 4 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 1. Registration for those who just want to listen to the conference call closes at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 2.
The public will also be invited to speak during a town board meeting when the committee presents its report.
