TUSCALOOSA, AL — The Tuscaloosa Police Department says two Birmingham-area men were charged after allegedly robbing the CVS Pharmacy on Veterans Memorial Parkway Tuesday night and prompting a high-speed chase that ended near the Jefferson County line in Bessemer. According to investigators, the robbery call came in at about 9:30 p.m. when it was reported that a man passed a note to the pharmacy employee demanding medications while making a gesture to show he was armed with a gun. The men were charged each with one count of first-degree robbery, tampering with evidence, trafficking a controlled substance and attempting to elude the police. After receiving the call, TPD units made contact with the suspect vehicle headed north on Interstate 20/59 and police in pursuit reported initiating a traffic stop, but the vehicle continued on, staying on the interstate until it reached Academy Drive near the Jefferson County line. TPD says the suspect vehicle then exited off the interstate on Academy Drive, ending up on Flint Hill Road, where the two suspects were taken into custody after hitting a dead end, bailing out of the vehicle and trying to hide in a trash bog ravine. Evidence leading to the charges was also recovered from the suspect's Nissan Altima and at other points in the road, TPD said. Follow Patch here for updates or on Facebook and Twitter.
