Time to get out enjoy nature. Learn to get in and out of the outdoors. Navigation with Map and CompassA class designed for the beginner who wants to get outside and enjoy what nature has to offer. Now that you are ready to head out on the trail let's get comfortable with navigation. We will help you understand the information that is contained within your map, how to use a compass, and how the two work together. You get time to practice taking a bearing from your surroundings and transferring it to your map. Exploring the wilderness is a wonderful experience. You are far from the crowds, in a hushed tranquil world. This is level 1 of a 5 level series to get you confident outside in any conditions. Levels: Introduction to Camping: A class designed for the beginner who wants to get outside and enjoy what nature has to offer. We will cover the basics of camping including gear, what to wear, where to camp, bathroom necessities, and basic meal planning. It will also include a discussion of the principles of Leave no Trace Backpacking 101: This course is designed for those who wish to take their camping out of the drive-in campsite and into the wild. There will be more in-depth discussions about trip planning, choosing the right gear, map use, and safety Navigation and Map and Compass: Now that you are ready to head out on the trail let's get comfortable with navigation. We will help you understand the information that is contained within your map, how to use a compass, and how the two work together. You get time to practice taking a bearing from your surroundings and transferring it to your map. Extended Backpacking Trip Planning: Your skills are growing and your confidence abounds. Let's put things together so that you can take that long-awaited extended backpacking trek. By the end of this class, you will have not only the skills to plan for a long trek, but we will work in a practical fashion to help you plan the trip you want to take. International Travel; Expedition Ready: Thinking of climbing Kilimanjaro? The Alps? Central of South America? There is nothing greater than getting to see this amazing world of ours than by foot. This course will cover the aspects of embarking on an international backpacking expedition. Not only will we discuss the logistics that are involved in this type of travel, but we will cover such topics as altitude problems, safety, choosing the right guides and more. His love of the outdoors has taken him around the world. He loves being outside and helping others have great wilderness adventures. He has climbed, guided, and taught remote medicine across the globe. This includes Alaska, Argentina, Mongolia, Iceland, Tanzania, the Rockies, and many more. He co-founded a clinic in the mountains of Belle Fontaine, Haiti. There he provided medical services to victims of the 2010 earthquakes. He worked with Floating Doctors to provide healthcare in rural island clinics. He worked in Tanzania and Mongolia providing medical care to indigenous populations.
