SALEM, MA — North Shore seniors are urged not to provide credit card numbers or financial information on unsolicited calls from someone claiming they can "register" you for a coronavirus vaccine. Salem police said that other North Shore communities are reporting the scam in which seniors are targeted with calls claiming that they can be "registered" for a vaccine if they provide some type of a deposit. "Do not respond and do not provide the information," Salem police said. "No credit card number or payment is required to receive the COVID-19 vaccine." Salem police are asking residents to report any such solicitations at 978-744-1212. While there has been widespread frustration on getting appointments for the vaccine in the two days since the state opened up registration to all those 75 and older, the Salem Council on Aging said the best way to proceed is with persistence and patience with the online process, with hopes that appointments may become more available in the coming days and weeks. Salem seniors who need assistance with registration can call the Salem council at 978-744-0924, extension 43015, and leave a message with a name and number. The city said someone from the council's social services team will return the call as soon as they can.
