PEABODY, MA — The Peabody Board of Health is advising residents in phase 2 of the state's coronavirus vaccination rollout to arrange vaccinations through state-run vaccination sites, pharmacies and primary health care providers with the city itself told to expect "just 100 doses of vaccine each week for the foreseeable future" for municipal distribution. As the vaccine is expected to become more available in the coming months with more groups eligible, the city plans to open a vaccination center at the Torigian Senior Center on Central Street. The city will use its remaining allotment of vaccines on those in phase 1 who have not been vaccinated— including health care workers, first responders and those in congregate care settings. The city is advising veterans 65 years old or older to make an appointment to receive a vaccine at the Bedford Veterans Affairs Building by calling 781-687-4000. The city is advising other residents in phase 2 — which began registering those 75 years old or older for vaccinations on Wednesday — to try to register at the mass vaccination site located at the Doubletree Hotel in Danvers, which will begin administering vaccinations on Feb. 3 and has the capability of vaccinated up to 5,000 people per day, if supplies allow. "The role of local Boards of Health in this vaccination effort will be different from what you have been accustomed to during a typical flu season," the city said. "The state will not be prioritizing Boards of Health for vaccine delivery at this stage. "The Peabody Health Department stands ready to increase its role as a vaccinator should the state authorize additional doses of vaccine for cities and towns." Due to Health Department experiencing "extremely high call volume" the city is directing those with questions to its website or the state vaccination website to check on eligibility and to schedule an appointment.
