Milford May Post Signs To Deter Amazon Truck Drivers

MILFORD, MA — Milford town officials are working on a new system to deter Amazon trucks from clogging side streets. At Monday's meeting, Select Board member Tom O'Loughlin said Amazon has agreed to create and install signs on streets around town telling the company's drivers not to use the street. The signs are aimed at tractor-trailers, not delivery vans. O'Loughlin said the town has fielded 25 complaints about Amazon trucks since Dec. 9, and many have to do with tractor-trailers using side streets. Amazon truck traffic has been an issue in Milford years, but the company recently opened a new distribution facility at 1 National Street off of Depot Street. Amazon also operates a delivery center along Industrial Road off of Beaver Street. The signs would be in English and Spanish, and will feature a picture of a tractor-trailer. A draft version of the sign was recently shown to town officials, but it featured a picture of a smaller box truck. Milford officials have asked the signs to be upgraded to feature the larger trucks.
