Description
From The JAX Chamber: January 27, 2021 North Florida corporate citizens, community advocates, educators, and the public are invited to three days of pathfinding and engagement to promote cross communication and social progress during the virtual 2021 Diversity Leadership Conference to be held February 24 – 26, 2021. The purpose of the conference is to create an inclusive environment in the city and increase citizens' collective understanding of the values of collaboration, connectivity, and social progress that enriches our community and workforce. All conference participants must sign an anti-racism pledge and career professionals are eligible to receive Continuing Legal Education (CLE) and SHRM Professional Development Credits. The 2 CLE credits will be for Bias Elimination and only available for attorneys barred in the State of Florida. "As a nation we have become very divided based on a variety of characteristics and this is our opportunity to come together and heal as a city, region, and nation. We must learn how we can develop relationships, both personal and working to create a better society for all. Our city continues to see disparities that must be addressed if we are to create a just and equitable experience for all," says Dr. Tammy Hodo, TEDx speaker and president of All Things Diverse, the conference partner with local nonprofit DREAMWEEK INC. The year 2020 will be remembered as an intense and challenging one as the world faced a global pandemic while also bearing witness to intense moments of racial strain stemming from and surrounding the public and viral death of George Floyd. After decades of documented overt and covert racial discord leading to the Civil Rights Movement, the creation of the more recent #BlackLivesMatter movement; corporations and communities are showing signs of readiness to work together and address what needs to be done to educate and empower everyday citizens on issues of race. Jacksonville diversity leaders are ready to explore "How Northeast Florida can Forget the Way." Registration is open to anyone who is interested in learning and self-education.
