STRATFORD, CT — A woman arrested earlier this month and accused of fleeing Capitol Police in Washington, D.C., was safe Wednesday evening after being reported missing that afternoon from Stratford, according to law enforcement. Linda MaGovern, 63, of Cherry Street, was found safe the same day a Silver Alert was issued about her disappearance, Stratford police confirmed. MaGovern was arrested Jan. 16 after she approached a perimeter for the presidential inauguration. Police said she displayed a Military Police Challenge Coin and claimed to be an officer and a member of the presidential Cabinet. When police asked to see her driver's license, she fled and was stopped a short distance later, according to law enforcement. She was arrested, held in D.C. jail and received a psychiatric evaluation. She pleaded not guilty to a misdemeanor charge of fleeing police and was released on the condition she be monitored by court officials and stay out of Washington, D.C., according to court documents. MaGovern has no recent criminal conviction history in Connecticut, according to judicial records. While Stratford police have previously been called to her address, none of the calls have been criminal or unusual, police said.
