Description
MERIDEN, CT — A person possessing a stolen gun with a high capacity magazine was arrested following a police chase, according to state police. At 9:57 a.m. Wednesday, a state trooper was patrolling I-84 in Waterbury when he or she saw a white 2018 Nissan Altima committing traffic violations.
The trooper attempted a traffic stop but the driver of the Nissan fled. The driver then engaged police in a chase traveling through the traffic light at the bottom of the Exit 25A ramp.
The Nissan driver returned to the highway after committing several traffic violations. The driver then began swerving in and out of travel lanes while speeding.
Troopers ended the chase after witnessing the hazardous driving behavior. Troopers located the car again later and shared its location with Meriden police.
Meriden patrol units found the suspect car and attempted to stop it. The driver fled again and eventually detectives from the the Meriden Street Crimes Unit located the car again.
As the Street Crimes Unit approached, the driver fled on foot. Police eventually caught the driver and recovered the stolen gun. The driver was arrested by Meriden police and further state police related charges are pending.
