YORKVILLE, IL — Yorkville Community United School District 115 superintendent Tim Shimp said 30-percent of the district's 950 staff members have said they will not take the COVID-19 vaccine when it's available according to reports in Shaw Media. Shimp, speaking at Monday's school board meeting, said another 70 to 80 staff members "were unsure at the time" if they would choose to be inoculated. According to reports, Shimp said 123 district employees had received the vaccine thus far, while another 80 were scheduled for the vaccine earlier this week. Kendall County has shifted into phase 1b, in which essential workers and the elderly are eligible for vaccinations. Shimp said Yorkville High School was preparing to serve as a mass vaccination site for the community, and the Kendall County Health Department has chosen Feb. 6 and March 6 as days for elderly residents to be vaccinated. County officials have said the mass vaccination site will not be fully operational until the health department has thousands of COVID-19 doses in its stockpile. At Monday's meeting, Shimp also touted Kendall County's move into Phase 4 of COVID-19 guidelines, and said he expects district extracurricular activities and athletics to return soon.
