PHILADELPHIA — A North Carolina man is facing federal charges after authorities said he tried to kidnap one woman and successfully kidnapped another in Center City Philadelphia.
Acting United States Attorney Jennifer Arbittier Williams Tuesday said Jacob Montague, 35, of Wilson, North Carolina, was charged by Indictment for the attempted kidnapping of one woman, and the kidnapping of a second woman in Center City Philadelphia in late 2020.
Montague is in custody and will have his initial appearance in federal court on Friday. The government will be moving for detention pending trial.
According to the Indictment, the first incident occurred on the night of Nov. 1, 2020. On that date, Montague is alleged to have wielded a knife near the intersection of 20th and Spruce Streets in an attempt to abduct the victim. The next day, Nov. 2, 2020, Montague allegedly parked his vehicle near the intersection of 24th and Spruce Streets and abducted a young woman at knife point, dragging her into his vehicle, authorities said.
If convicted, Montague faces a maximum possible sentence of life in prison, followed by five years of supervised release, and a fine of up to $250,000.
