LISLE, ILL —A 30-year-old woman died and a 9-year-old was in critical condition after a crash involving a semi-trailer Tuesday morning on westbound Interstate 88 near the Route 53 exit, police said. Illinois State Police said the woman was driving a 2009 Honda Accord in the left lane westbound on I-88 just before 11 a.m. when she lost control, causing the Honda to hit a median and then go back into traffic, where it was hit by the semi-trailer. Crews from the Lisle-Woodridge Fire Department arrived to find two people trapped inside their heavily damaged vehicle. The crews extricated both injured occupants, who were taken to Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove. The Lombard woman later died of her injuries, and the 9-year-old remained hospitalized with life-threatening injuries, according to the Daily Herald. The driver of the semi refused treatment at the scene. The Downers Grove Fire Department and Illinois State Police assisted the crews from the Lisle-Woodridge Fire District.
