When you're bored and out of work...SHUT YOUR BRAIN DOWN AND STOP EVERYTHING!
Now; Sit in a VERY Quiet place - ALONE with pen and paper, and give yourself an honest test.
1. Do I really want to seriously play music - PROFESSIONALLY? or do I need to invest that time in myself and get a higher paying job and a more stable position?
2. If I choose music, what gigs can I get right now that will pay me well with just my skill level? If the answer is NOTHING, what am I willing to invest to reach the right skill level to support my family?
***The best way to learn both better skill levels and more repertoire is to learn the repertoire to the point of perfection, and the skills will develop...fact! Learn your repertoire BY HEART. At least three hours worth, and play your repertoire 60 times before venturing on a gig, that's 180 hours of watching yourself in the mirror, or 3 to 4 weeks of serious work out, you hear that...WORK!
4. Now your confidence level is par with the working vegas musicians, but you still need a tool box full of "TRICKS", but a lot of that will come with experience - good and bad.
5. The only way I can develop musical greatness is to surround myself with musical greatness. Surrounding myself with beginner musicians equal to or lesser than me will set me back...FACT!
6. Get Karaoke backing tracks and work your act as if you're surrounded by greatness.
***If you want a short cut, you'll have to pay, through the nose, for a pro to coach you. Use the internet, it's cheaper and it works. Buy band in the box and help yourself develop.
Go the Heart? Go for it!
