FRAMINGHAM, MA — Soon, there will be a new entertainment option for adults at the Route 9 arcade Fun and Games. The family entertainment center, which opened in 1974, got permission on Monday from the Board of License Commissioners to start selling beer and wine. The arcade owners made the move after recently expanding food options — and noted that parents have been requesting alcohol service for many years. Last fall, Bronzetti's Pizza moved its famous square-pies operation into Fun and Games, also offering snacks and salads. That gave the arcade an opportunity to apply for an alcohol license. "Our goal is to provide parents a place to sit and enjoy our pizza with beer and wine while their children play safely in the arcade," manager Mark Daley wrote in a November letter to the city. Daley said Tuesday it might be a few weeks or longer before the arcade begins selling beer and wine. Arcades are allowed to operate under the state's coronavirus reopening plan. Massachusetts is in step one of phase three, which allows indoor activities like video games, Skee-Ball, batting cages and air hockey. The Fun and Games owners first got approval for an alcohol license in November, but had to return to licensing board on Monday after state officials asked the business to clarify the ownership structure.
