Long Branch Library Reopens Following $4M Facelift

SILVER SPRING, MD — Long Branch Library in Silver Spring has reopened after getting a $4 million facelift. The library, located at 8800 Garland Ave., closed in March 2020 for interior and exterior improvements under Montgomery County's Library Refurbishment initiative. The program supports cosmetic, programmatic, and service impact updates for a select few libraries each year. Before the program's creation, library officials said branches were only renovated once every 25-plus years. "Congratulations to our General Services and Public Libraries team on their collaborative work on this library refresh project," said County Executive Marc Elrich. "Our libraries are community anchors and the impressive improvements transform this into a modernized, beautiful facility for our Long Branch residents to enjoy." The 21,034-square-foot facility houses about 58,000 print volumes and media items. Renovations include updated public restrooms and new teen and children's areas. New LED light fixtures, ceiling tiles, and carpeting can be found throughout. Outside, you'll find a new plaza roof with decorative railing, new storefront entrances, and a new ADA-compliant book drop.
